Take this program to learn to teach other drivers to properly operate a Class 5 vehicle in Manitoba. You will gain the ability to train beginners on how to operate a vehicle or to help individuals upgrade their driving abilities. You will develop skills to instruct, integrate safety and defensive driving techniques, and interpret sections of the Manitoba Highway Traffic Act.

This program includes 64 hours of theory followed by 28 hours of in-car training and 4 hours in-car certification.

Participants will have 5 months from the end of the classroom “Driver Instructor - Class 5 Theory” portion of the program to complete all program requirements, including the theory examination, in-car testing and the final in-car certification.

Upon completion of the program you may want to apply for a Manitoba Driver Training Permit (Note: successful completion of the course does not guarantee you will qualify for a permit). Contact Manitoba Public Insurance, Driver Training Permit Unit at 204-985-8063 or by email at  for information regarding MPI requirements.

During the three years immediately before the date you apply (for an MPI Permit), you must: have held a valid full-stage licence (issued by a province or territory of Canada or by a state of the United States) for the class of license you wish to instruct.

A person's driving experience is one of the factors that determine eligibility for an instructor permit. If you suspect your driving record or driving history might not meet the requirements, you may complete a pre-authorization form, from the Permit Unit prior to proceeding.
