This course is designed for American English Sign Language and Deaf Studies (ASDP) Certificate students as well as individuals that have some experience with ASL. The course offers the opportunity to maintain and enhance ASL by progressing from common concrete communications, communicative events and interactions, to language usage expressing abstract ideas. Emphasis is placed on the comprehension and production of increasingly complex linguistic structure with a focus on dialogue and conversational expressions.
This introductory course is designed for students with little or no knowledge of American Sign Language (ASL). Students will learn the basic skills required to communicate with Deaf people and some rules of ASL grammar and syntax. Students will be exposed to everyday communications such as greetings and introductions and exchanging basic information. An introduction to Deaf culture and the Deaf Community will also be provided.
This course is a study of American Sign Language designed to increase the student’s proficiency in intermediate ASL communication skills with emphasis on comprehension and conversation skills, cultural awareness, grammatical features, facial expressions, and vocabulary development. This course will provide a continued focus on developing the student’s insight into the culture and community of Deaf people.

Students will learn the skills to become proficient in Keyboarding; typing 40 words per minute with three errors or less.

In this micro-credential course, leaders will examine the difference between virtual and hybrid work environments and how to adjust leadership styles and strategies for each. Leaders will learn how to communicate, collaborate, and engage with teams in a virtual or hybrid work environment. Leaders will acquire the knowledge, tools, and skills to lead, motivate, and build productive virtual and hybrid teams. Leaders will also explore how to create a cohesive team culture while leading virtual and hybrid projects and meetings.
This course introduces students to the knowledge and skills necessary to produce 2D technical drawings using AutoCAD computer aided design (CAD) methods. Students will gain an understanding of construction and engineering drawing conventions, annotation methods, scaling and the fundamental tools and techniques using Autodesk AutoCAD software. Furthermore, students will examine how to add and modify objects, text, dimensions, hatching and blocks through the completion of moderately complex, two-dimensional working drawings using both imperial and metric units. This course is a prerequisite for CADD-1015 AutoCAD Intermediate.
This course introduces students to the knowledge and skills necessary to produce 2D technical drawings using advanced tools in AutoCAD computer aided design (CAD). Building upon the concepts learned in AutoCAD Fundamentals, students will gain an understanding of annotative scaling, layouts, scaled viewports, viewport management, block attributes and dynamic blocks using Autodesk AutoCAD software. Furthermore, students will be introduced to the use and management of external references, tables and templates. Students will complete two-dimensional working drawings using both imperial and metric units.
This course builds upon the concepts learned in the AutoCAD Intermediate Micro-credential. Students will practice using advanced AutoCAD tools when preparing two-dimensional (2D) technical documents including sheet sets, automation tools, text fields, layer management, Customization of the User Interface (CUI) and parametric drawing. They will be introduced to the processes and strategies for publishing and transmitting technical documents through standard industry methods of collaboration. Students will complete 2D drawings in AutoCAD using both imperial and metric units along with projects demonstrating the use of advanced tools and processes using AutoCAD.
This course is a basic introduction to programming using the Python programming language. Students will develop, code, test and debug programs for simple applications using proper programming principles and documentation. Topics include data types, variable declaration, control structures, methods, classes, inheritance, polymorphism, encapsulation, arrays, and other data structures. No prior knowledge of programming is required.
Students will gain the foundational skills to use Excel in the workplace. Beginning by determining what the purpose of the worksheet is, students will enter the worksheet data to communicate information. Students will then use formulas for basic arithmetic operators and some of the most commonly used functions for calculations. Students will then apply formatting options to give the worksheet an easy-to-read appearance. Finally, students will explore layouts and print options for screen view printed output. This course is a pre-requisite for COMP-1278 Microsoft Excel 365 - Level 2.
First, students will create charts to represent the data visually. Next, learn how to manage data across multiple worksheets in a workbook and between workbooks. Then, create 3-D formulas in worksheets within the same workbook and between different workbooks. Students will create names for cells and ranges for easier cell recognition and to use in formulas for clarity. Finally, students will explore financial functions for calculations, logical functions to compare data and lookup functions to find values. This course is a pre-requisite for COMM-1279 Microsoft Excel 365 - Level 3.
First, students will create tables to give structure to data and use sorting and filtering to analyze data and use Total row option for summary function calculations. Then, students will use the Quick Analysis Tool for direct access to a collection of features as an alternative to tabs. Students will then create basic macros to change manual repetitive tasks into automated tasks. Next, students will create templates as a predesigned bases for new workbooks using frequently used content to save time and to ensure consistency. Finally, students will learn how to protect worksheets and cells from unauthorized access or editing.
This course examines topics in the Early Childhood Education system, including quality care, professionalism and the evolution of the system. Students also review the different sectors that make up the early childhood education system.
In this course, students explore information from the resource, The Science of Early Child Development – Introductory Edition. Readings, videos, links, interactive games and discussions are utilized by students to gain basic knowledge of child development and links to practice in early childhood education.
The students in this introductory course will develop language skills in Anishinaabemowin (Ojibwe language) in the context of Anishinaabe cultural worldview and teachings. The main focus of the course is honouring the language and culture of the traditional territory of the Anishinaabe. Students will practice the alphabet, double vowel system, basic grammatical structures and develop basic writing skills while experiencing and engaging in unique, authentic practices like developing personalized greetings, learning traditional songs, and having basic conversations.

4 Seasons of Reconciliation is a three-hour online course that includes 10 interactive modules providing the foremost educational tool for corporate, community and classroom anti-racist training in providing the foundation on reconciliation with authentic Indigenous voices.

Online learning is a critical component of course delivery in all Red River College programs. To ensure each student has the tools they need to achieve their academic goals, all Red River College students require, at minimum:

This is an $1000 award given annually to a student who demonstrates exceptional effort and/or the ability to lead, organize and engage students or members of the community in embodying the values of equity, diversity, inclusion, multiculturalism and social justice.
The successful recipient will be a community activist, advocate or leader who has worked for systemic changes at various levels and with various social identities in mind. Their advocacy may involve (but is not limited to): human rights, LGBTT* issues, anti-racism, anti-poverty, public health, non-violence, community-building and student engagement, or encouraging others on issues of social justice that impact the lives of students and the broader community.
Applications will be evaluated by the Selection Committee, based on the following criteria:
• Making a significant contribution to equity, inclusion and social justice through community engagement, either in specific positions of responsibility or while involved in organizing activities. (Requirements: Student statement and at least one reference letter)
• Engaging and inspiring other students or members of the community to advocate on social justice issues that impact the lives of students or the general community.
• Financial need may also be considered. Applicants may choose to complete the financial section of the application, and/or include information.
All full-time and part-time Red River College students are welcome to apply. The general application form must be accompanied by a student statement and required letter(s) of reference in order to be considered. The deadline for applications is March 1st. The Southern Chiefs’ Organization Every Child Matters Scholarship was created in honour of the children who attended residential schools and those who never made it home. Southern Chiefs’ Organization recognizes that all First Nation people, families, and communities have been impacted by the residential schools. The $2000 scholarship is intended to support Survivors and their descendants, as well as descendants of the families of the children who died. The scholarship is to be awarded on the basis of academic merit to a status citizen of one of the Southern Chiefs’ Organization member First Nations (Berens River, Birdtail Sioux, Black River, Bloodvein, Brokenhead, Buffalo, Canupawakpa, Dakota, Dauphin River, Ebb and Flow, Gambler, Hollow Water, Keeseekoowenin, Kinonjeoshtegon, Lake Manitoba, Lake St. Martin, Little Grand Rapids, Little Saskatchewan, Long Plain, O-Ch-Chak-Koo-Sipi, Pauingassi, Point Pegui, Pinaymootang, Plains Pine Creek, Poplar River, Rolling River, Roseau River, Sagkeeng, Sandy Bay, Skownan, Swan Lake, Tootinaowaziibeeng, or Waywayseecappo), who is a full- or part-time continuing student at the Red River College Polytechnic, who has successfully completed at least 12 credit hours, and who has made contributions to their school community or their community at large. Applicants must submit a letter describing their school or community involvement. The contact information of the chosen recipient shall be disclosed to the donor each year.
