Program Outline

To obtain a statement of achievement, you must complete the Driver Instructor Training Theory and Driver Instructor In-Car Certification Exam with a passing grade of  80%.

Driver Instructor Training Theory - 45 hours

Winter 2025 - 15 Weeks

  • Schedule: Once per week on Tuesday evenings from 6 - 9 pm
  • Delivery: Blended (online and in-person at Notre Dame Campus)
  • Final Exam:  Final class at Notre Dame Campus (NDC)
    • Re-write Opportunity: The following week at the regularly scheduled time (Tuesday evening)*
  • Break:
    • 2 weeks for students who pass on the first attempt
    • 1 week for students who need to re-write.
Spring 2025 (tentative, subject to change) - 7.5 weeks

  • Schedule: Once per week on Tuesdays and Thursday evenings from 6 - 9 pm
  • Delivery: Blended (online and in-person at Notre Dame Campus)
  • Final Exam:  Final class at Notre Dame Campus (NDC)
    • Re-write Opportunity: The following week at the regularly scheduled time (Thursday evening)*
  • Break:
    • 1 ½  weeks for students who pass on the first attempt
    • ½  week for students who need to re-write.

Driver Instructor In-Car Training - 28 hours

  • Timing: Starts two weeks after Driver Instructor Training Theory Exam
  • Schedule: Seven weekly sessions for 4 hours (e.g. Mondays 6 - 10 pm for 7 weeks)
  • Format: Students work in pairs with an instructor
  • Start/End Point Location: Notre Dame Campus (NDC)
  • Scheduling: Based on student availability provided during the theory course.

Driver Instructor In-Car Certification Exam - 3 hours

  • Timing: Within two weeks after 7th week of in-car training
  • Duration: Approximately 3 hours
  • Format: Paired with two instructors (one as mocked student driver, one as invigilator)
  • Start/End Point Location: Notre Dame Campus (NDC)
  • Re-write Opportunity: Within two (2) weeks after the initial exam period*

*Additonal Costs: Re-writes for both theory and in-car certification exams.
