Admission Requirements

If your academic history includes any of the following, please visit me.rrc.mb.ca/Catalogue/Information/MyEducation for important information: post-secondary studies at an institution other than Red River College; Modified (M), English as an Additional Language (E), or GED high school courses; or home schooling.
ADMISSION REQUIREMENTS ARE DUE WITHIN 30 DAYS OF APPLYING (unless otherwise noted below).

However, if you apply within 6 weeks of the program start date, admission requirements are due within 5 days of applying.

This program is open to Manitoba residents of Aboriginal ancestry only. Applications for this program received from individuals who are not a Manitoba resident and/or not a member of an Indigenous community will be cancelled with no refund of the application fee.

Regular Admission Requirements

  1. Grade 12 Graduation
    • Submit proof of graduation from Grade 12, including one credit in each of the following courses:
      • Grade 12 English
      • Grade 12 Math
        and
  2. Aboriginal Ancestry
    • Provide proof of Aboriginal ancestry and membership with an Indigenous community by submitting one of the following:
      • Certificate of Indian Status (Treaty Card)
        or
      • Manitoba Metis Federation (MMF) Card
        or
      • Letter of Support from a First Nations Band
        or
      • Letter of Support from a recognized Aboriginal organization (examples include Centre for Aboriginal Human Resource Development (CARHD) or the Aboriginal Council of Winnipeg)
        and
  3. Autobiography
    • Submit a 2-3 page autobiography that demonstrates your preparedness and suitability for this program.  Your autobiography should describe the following:
      • Your present situation
      • Your past experiences with learning
      • How you became interested in your chosen field of studies
      • Your personal strengths and challenges
      • Steps you've taken to prepare for college
      • Your participation in the community
      • Your future goals
    • Your autobiography be evaluated and assigned a score that reflects your potential for success in the program. If your score is within acceptable range you will be invited to attend a personal interview.  If your score does not fall within the acceptable range, your application will be cancelled.
      and
  4. Interview
    • Participate in a personal interview to assess your personal, social, and financial readiness for College (eg. housing, finances, childcare, supports, wellbeing, study skills, time management, competing commitments etc.)
    • This item is not due within 30 days of applying and will be requested by the College at a later date
