Description
The Network and Systems Administrator program provides learners with practical skills in information technology infrastructure design, administration, and support. Students build foundational and advanced competencies in computer systems, networking, routing and switching, Windows and Linux administration, cloud platforms, cybersecurity, scripting, technical documentation, and IT project work. Learning takes place through hands-on labs using industry-grade hardware and software from recognized technology providers including Cisco, Microsoft, Red Hat, and AWS.

After completing the program, graduates will be able to:

1. Install, configure, and troubleshoot computer hardware, operating systems, and common software applications.
2. Build, configure, secure, and troubleshoot local and enterprise networks using routing, switching, wireless, IPv4, and IPv6 technologies.
3. Administer Windows Server, Linux, and hybrid infrastructure environments.
4. Configure and manage Microsoft Azure and AWS cloud services to support infrastructure, networking, storage, identity, security, monitoring, and scalable deployment needs.
5. Apply cybersecurity principles to protect systems, networks, data, and hybrid environments.
6. Develop scripts using PowerShell and Python to automate system administration tasks and improve operational efficiency.
7. Document technical systems, processes, network designs, and project outcomes for technical and non-technical audiences.
8. Plan, implement, test, and present network and systems administration solutions through applied projects and Work-Integrated learning.
9. Collaborate with others in professional IT environments, applying troubleshooting, communication, and project management skills to shared technical work.

Graduates may work in IT roles such as Help Desk Analyst, IT Support Technician, Network Support Technician, Cloud Support Technician, Infrastructure Technician, Junior Network Analyst, or Junior Security Technician. With additional experience, they may progress into network, systems, or cloud administration roles.

  1. Grade 12
    • Submit proof of graduation from or enrolment in Grade 12, including one credit in each of the following:
      • Grade 12 English (40S)
      • Grade 12 Math (40S) 
    • If you provide proof of enrolment at time of application, your official final grades indicating successful completion must be submitted by July 15 for fall enrolment or by the deadline specified in your admission letter.
    • If you are required to complete an English language assessment, do not submit your transcripts until requested to do so.  See English Language Requirements (ELRs) for more information.

Mature Student Admission Requirements
If you are 19 years of age or older and have been out of high school for a minimum of one year at time of application, and you do not meet the regular admission requirements, you may apply under the Mature Student admission requirements.

This capstone course is the final integration of the Network and Systems Administration diploma program. Students apply the comprehensive knowledge and skills they've acquired to address a real-world network and systems administration challenge, using advanced methodologies to develop, implement, and evaluate a solution, while documenting their process and preparing presentations for technical and non-technical audiences.

Recognition of Prior Learning

Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL) is a process which documents and compares an individual's prior learning gained from prior education, work and life experiences and personal study to the learning outcomes in College courses/programs. For more information, please visit www.rrc.ca/rpl.

Graduation Requirements

Students will earn the Network and Systems Administrator diploma by completing 17 required courses plus a mandatory Work-Integrated learning activity. The program is designed to be completed through full-time study over four academic terms. Students must receive a minimum grade of D (50%) in all program courses and receive a Pass (P) in either Network and Systems Administrator Applied Practicum or Network and Systems Administrator Applied Capstone. In accordance with RRC Polytech graduation requirements, students must complete the required courses within the designated timeframe, complete at least 25% of academic credits through RRC Polytech, and achieve a minimum program GPA of 2.0, unless otherwise determined by the department. Students have a maximum of six years from the first day of scheduled classes to complete the diploma program.
