When working in the health care profession, there are many physical and emotional demands. As a Medical Laboratory Technologist you must:
- Be in good physical and mental health and be able to stand or walk for extended periods of time without resting
- Have fine motor control of both hands
- Be able to differentiate colours
- Be able to distinguish sounds
- Be able to lift 25 pounds routinely and up to 45 pounds occasionally
You will be working with blood and bodily fluids. You will be exposed to infectious diseases and toxic materials.
Additionally, you may:
- Be exposed to noise, allergens, physical and emotional stress
- Experience repetitive strain injuries
- Be required to work extended hours
- Encounter aggressive and agitated patients, visitors, and staff

The Medical Laboratory Science Program is an intensive 28 month full time program that demands dedication and commitment. After graduating the program you may be eligible to write the Canadian Society for Medical Laboratory Science national examination to become professionally certified.
