Admission Requirements

Applicants must be active practicing members of the College of Registered Nurses of Manitoba (CRNM).

To apply, applicants must complete and submit an application and the non-refundable/non-transferable application fee. 

Applicants must also complete and/or demonstrate the following:

  1. Related clinical experience

    • Submit a completed Verification of Clinical Practice form confirming clinical practice hours (a minimum of three years of related clinical experience within the past 5 years) due within 30-days of applying

      AND

    • Letter of Support from employer addressed to Nurse Prescriber Admissions Officer indicating the length of time practicing in the targeted area and evidence of engagement in the workplace due within 30 days of applying.

  3. Pre-requisites

    • All applicants must have received credit for a Pharmacology (3 credits) and a Health Assessment (3 credits) course with a minimum grade of 70% achieved as part of their nursing education program completed in the past five years due within 30 days of applying. For the 2021/2022 academic year, the nursing program must have been completed on or after January 1, 2016.
    • For those applicants who have not completed the above noted course requirements within the timeframe provided, please:
      • Enrol in NURS-2011 Pharmacology for Nurses and NURS-2012 Health Assessment/Prescriber offered by the Red River College School of Continuing Education

Program Progression Requirements
Program progression requirements are not due within 30 days of applying and should be submitted after you start classes.

Practicum Prerequisites

  1. Immunization and Testing
  2. Adult Criminal Record/Vulnerable Sector (ACRVS), Adult Abuse Registry (AAR) and Provincial Child Abuse Registry (PCAR) checks conducted no more than six months prior to you attending the clinical practice. You must submit original documents. For further information, see: Police Information Check. If students have a criminal record, they may not be able to complete the program. If students are listed on the Child Abuse Registry or Adult Abuse Registry, you will not be able to complete the program.

  3. BLS Provider (Basic Life Support for Health Care Providers Level C with AED) - must be current within one year of attending the practicum.
