Password Skills
(An in person English Language Assessment hosted by RRC Polytech)
This in-person, computer-based test is composed of four test modules: reading, writing, listening and speaking. The test takes 3 hours and 5 minutes to complete and is conducted in two parts. The first part assesses reading, listening, and writing, and the second part assesses speaking in a separate room.
Password Skills is hosted by the RRC Polytech Testing and Assessment Centre: E440, Manitou a bi Bii Daziigae building, on the fourth floor.
If you wish to do Password Skills remotely (not in-person), Password Skills Plus can be taken online. RRC Polytech does not offer Password Skills Plus, but we do accept the results for entry into program.

Since magnetic resonance does not involve the use of ionizing radiation, radiation protection is unnecessary. However, patients must remove any metal objects that could be drawn to the magnet. Patients with pacemakers, or other metallic implants, cannot undergo magnetic resonance scans because of the potential for damage to such devices.
Claustrophobia can be a problem for certain patients. Magnetic resonance scans require sliding the patient into a body-length tunnel - the core of the magnetic field.

The MRI program is 8 1/2 months in duration and consists of two terms.
This course is designed to familiarize students with the processes and symptoms of various pathologies within the body. The student will also learn to identify the MR appearance of these pathologies on various imaging sequences and MRI protocols.

This course promotes knowledge in the areas of physical principles, equipment and instrumentation of Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI). Focus will be spent on exploring the basics and more complex methods and techniques in optimizing MR scanning parameters and sequences. Knowledge of physics principles for diagnostic image formation, reconstruction and manipulation will be explored.
This course is designed to prepare participants to acquire knowledge and skills in screening, preparing, assessing and assisting patients for MR examinations. After a brief review of human interactions, basic nursing skills, ethical and legal aspects of care, following content areas are covered at a level required of MRI technologist: clinical history taking, patient and public screening, contrast agents and sedative administration, physical and psychological preparation for MRI, MR safety regulations and procedures, and biological hazards associated with MRI. This course may be offered through Web CT.
This course is designed to provide the student with a general overview of the gross and cellular anatomy of the various areas of the body with a heavy emphasis on cross-sectional anatomy of the various areas of the body. The student will be able to identify anatomical structures in cross-section on sagittal, coronal and axial MR images.
This course allows students to apply the knowledge that was obtained during the didactic term to the clinical environment. Students will spend time in a hospital and/or research facility that has been approved by the College for training in Magnetic Resonance Imaging/Spectroscopy.
This course focuses on implementation and application of the technical and clinical skills utilized by a Magnetic Resonance Imaging Technologist in a supervised MRI setting.

The MRI and Spectroscopy program includes 18 weeks of clinical education/practicum.
Red River College Polytechnic will help you obtain a clinical placement(s) for the completion of the MRI/S clinical education/practicum. You will have the opportunity to indicate your preferred clinical placement sites, and efforts will be made to consider these. However, the availability of clinical spots and the number of students in the class will determine assignment of clinical placements and you may not receive your preferred site(s). Your clinical placement(s) will be assigned at the discretion of the program.
Due to the limited number of clinical placement sites it may be necessary for students to relocate either within Manitoba or to another province. Requests for out-of-province clinical placement sites may be possible, however they cannot be guaranteed.
Additionally, rotations to other clinical placement sites may be required to achieve all practical competencies. For example, Health Sciences Centre students need to go to St. Boniface General Hospital to see cardiac MR scans.
You are responsible for all additional expenses related to the clinical education/practicum, including relocation costs (travel, meals, accommodation) to clinical placement site(s).
The College reserves the right to make changes to clinical placements of students when deemed necessary.
