In this course, you will learn about the insurance claims-handling process, and understand adjuster-client relationship management in order to gather critical information. You will examine key step-by-step processes for policy analysis as it relates to determining client coverage. You will also learn about the fundamentals of investigation, evaluation, negotiation, and settlement within the claims process. You will study the specific essentials of loss adjusting within the context of property and liability claims.

1. Identify and outline the framework of legal system in Canada in relation to claims handling.

2. Interpret legal documents related to the field.

3. Describe the roles and duties of the insurance company and claimants in an initial loss situation.

4. Describe the organization of claims departments within insurance companies.

5. Use various communication techniques in claim situations and describe why different techniques are used in various situations.

6. Process claims.

7. Investigate claims.

8. Present estimate for claimant decision.

9. Write insurance reports that relate to the claim to insurance company.
