The Electronics Technician program is designed for individuals who enjoy working with technology and solving complex problems. This program offers a combination of theoretical knowledge and practical skills in electronics, preparing students for careers in a variety of industries. Throughout the program, students will gain proficiency in circuit design, testing, and troubleshooting, ensuring they are equipped for real-world applications.

Submission of required documentation indicating proof of completion of admission requirements is due within 15 days of applying unless otherwise noted in the program's admission requirements.

However, if you apply within 6 weeks of the program start date, admission requirements are due within 5 days of applying.

Regular Admission Requirements

  1. Grade 12
    • Submit proof of graduation from or enrolment in Grade 12, including one credit in each of the following:
      • Grade 12 English (40S)
      • Grade 12 Math (40S) 
    • If you provide proof of enrolment at time of application, your official final grades indicating successful completion must be submitted by July 15 for fall enrolment or by the deadline specified in your admission letter.
    • If you are required to complete an English language assessment, do not submit your transcripts until requested to do so.  See English Language Requirements (ELRs) for more information.

      Have I successfully completed 3 years of full-time high school (secondary) education in Canada, the United States, or an ELR exempt country where English was the language of instruction?

Mature Student Admission Requirements
If you are 19 years of age or older and have been out of high school for a minimum of one year at time of application, and you do not meet the regular admission requirements, you may apply under the Mature Student admission requirements.

This course provides a foundational understanding of direct current (DC) electrical theory and circuit behavior. Students will explore core topics such as basic algebra, Ohm’s Law, resistors, series and parallel circuits, voltage/current dividers, batteries, switches, and relays. Emphasis is placed on practical problem-solving, safe measurement techniques, and hands-on analysis of DC circuits used in real-world applications.

This course introduces the principles of alternating current (AC) and their applications in electrical and electronic systems. Students will explore key concepts such as waveforms, impedance, capacitors, inductors, magnetism, time constants, and AC circuit analysis using trigonometry and phasors. Through theory and practical examples, the course builds a foundation for understanding how AC circuits operate in real-world technologies.

This course introduces the fundamentals of digital electronics, focusing on the principles of logic systems, number systems, and basic digital devices. Emphasis is placed on practical understanding through simulation, circuit construction, and testing.

This course introduces students to the analysis, design, and practical implementation of analog electronic circuits. Topics include operational amplifiers and their applications, thyristor devices for power control, sinusoidal oscillators, and multivibrator circuits using the 555 timer IC. Through a combination of theory and hands-on laboratory exercises, students develop skills in circuit construction, measurement, and troubleshooting using standard electronic test equipment.

This course provides students with the opportunity to apply their learning through a work practicum focused on gaining industry experience and developing workplace skills. This unpaid, work-integrated learning experience helps students build confidence, strengthen professional skills, and prepare for employment as electronics technicians.

This course provides students with the opportunity to apply their technical knowledge through a hands-on capstone project involving the design, construction, and testing of an electronic device. Students develop practical skills in schematic design, circuit assembly, troubleshooting, and refining electronic systems.

Graduation Requirements

  • Successfully complete each course with a minimum mark of 50%.
  • Achieve a minimum overall program average of 50%.
  • Receive a grade of P (Pass) in Electronics Technician Practicum.
