Courses and Descriptions

TRAD-9033Energy Advisor House Level

This course covers fundamental competencies such as low-rise housing construction and renovation, building envelope, heating, ventilation, air tightness testing, house energy computer modelling, and air conditioning, building science principles and the house-as-a-system concept. It will also prepare students for the NRCan exam.


Learning Outcomes:

  1. Describe the EnerGuide Rating System and its use for home use efficiency.
  2. Gather geometric and construction information and data for a given home.
  3. Explain the EnerGuide Rating System services such as Basic Service, Renovation Upgrade Service, Construction Blower Door Service, and Construction Upgrade Service for New Homes.
  4. Conduct blower door tests and apply diagnostics for identifying leak location.
  5. Use HOT2000 software, along with home geometric and construction data, to estimate house’s annual energy consumption.
  6. Interpret the reports generated from HOT2000.
  7. Demonstrate knowledge of the code of ethics, code of conduct and conflict of interest guidelines.
  8. Recognize the roles and responsibilities of NRCan, service organizations, managers, energy advisors, and contractors.
  9. Demonstrate the process of registration, designation and requalification process for service organizations, service providers, contractors, suspension, and delicensing/deregistration for energy advisors.
  10. Describe quality assurance procedures within a service organization.

Format:

  • 40 hours of instruction time (includes self-paced content and labs)
  • 24-hour/3-day skill lab at BETAC and RRC Notre Dame Campus, consisting of HOT2000 software and blower door training

Prerequisites

Textbooks and Booklists

Students enrolling in Part-Time and Online Education courses may be required to purchase textbooks and materials at participating Campus Store locations or online at bookstore.rrc.ca. Student booklists will be available approximately 3 weeks prior to scheduled course start dates. Please ensure materials are purchased in advance, to be available for the start date.

Note: Courses requiring a textbook will show "TR" in the Delivery field.
