Consider this course if you are a dental assistant looking to acquire additional skills or if you are seeking employment in orthodontic practices.

Admission Requirements

Orthodontic Module (DENT-1014):
  • To apply for these courses, you must be a graduate of an Accredited Phase 2, Level 2, or Expanded Duties Dental Assisting Program.
  • If you are a non-RRC graduate, you must submit copies of your certificate at the time of registration.

Dental Assistant Clinical Skills Refresher (DENT-1940):
  • If there has been a period of three years or more since obtaining the NDAEB certificate where the Dental Assistant has not practiced, the Dental Assisting Regulatory Authority (DARA) will direct the Dental Assistant to Red River College for the Refresher. 
  • One of the following must be applicable:
    • A graduate of an accredited dental assistant program on or before December 31, 2006
    • A graduate of an accredited dental assistant program after January 1, 2007 and possesses the National Dental Assisting Examining Board certificate
    • A graduate of a non-accredited dental assistant program, possesses the NDAEB certificate and has passed the NDAEB Clinical Practical Examination

Obtain skills at an introductory orthodontics level including orthodontic records and instruments; cephalometric tracing and analysis; multibanded appliances; direct and indirect bonding; removable, functional and extraoral appliances; and model trimming will be covered. Lecture and practical demonstration and hands-on practice are integral components of the course.

This course provides the didactic knowledge required for clinical practice of the intraoral dental assistant. 

Students enrolling in Part-Time and Online Education courses may be required to purchase textbooks and materials at participating Campus Store locations or online at bookstore.rrc.ca. Student booklists will be available approximately 3 weeks prior to scheduled course start dates. Please ensure materials are purchased in advance, to be available for the start date.
