TRAD-9034Energy Advisor Practicum

This course is currently only available to students in the Energy Advisor micro-credential program. If you are a student in the program, contact us to register.

This course covers fundamental competencies such as low-rise housing construction and renovation, building envelope, heating, ventilation, air tightness testing, house energy computer modelling, and air conditioning, building science principles and the house-as-a-system concept. It will also prepare students for the NRCan exam.


Learning Outcomes:

  1. Apply the foundational and house evaluation skills in practice.
  2. Interact and communicate with the homeowner to evaluate the home for EnerGuide audit process. 
  3. Use HOT2000 software, along with home geometric and construction data, to estimate house’s annual energy consumption.
  4. Interpret the reports generated from HOT2000.
  5. Discus findings and potential upgrade opportunities with homeowner. 
  6. Create EnerGuide label for the entire house.
  7. Submit the final home report to NRCan website.

Format:

  • Features a work-integrated learning component where groups of students will be assessed in houses
  • Additional details will depend on the COVID-19 protocols that are in place at the course start date

Prerequisites

Textbooks and Booklists

Students enrolling in Part-Time and Online Education courses may be required to purchase textbooks and materials at participating Campus Store locations or online at bookstore.rrc.ca. Student booklists will be available approximately 3 weeks prior to scheduled course start dates. Please ensure materials are purchased in advance, to be available for the start date.

Note: Courses requiring a textbook will show "TR" in the Delivery field.
