BLPR-1031Mechanical Blueprint Reading
More Information

Learn to read and interpret blueprints and to make simple sketches while using the terminology associated with the Machine Trade. Through progressively challenging reading and sketching assignments, learn to apply drafting fundamentals or symbolism as recommended by the Canadian Standards Association.

CADD-1000Autodesk Inventor - Essentials
More Information

This course is designed to provide students with an introduction to and an understanding of the basic functions of Inventor solid modeling software. Students successfully completing this course will be able to produce accurate part models, assemblies and create working drawings in both imperial and metric measurements. They will understand the concepts of parametric modeling, using default templates, create sketches and features, modify sketches and features, create work features, troubleshoot modeling files and gain a basic understanding drafting principles.  Instruction will be given in a hands-on environment through a combination of lecture, demonstration, practice and assignments.

Prerequisites:
CADD-1003AutoCAD 1
More Information

Start to learn the basic functions of AutoCAD (computer aided drafting software). Upon successful completion of this course, you will be able to produce accurate and complete simple two-dimensional working drawings in both imperial and metric measurements. You will understand the concepts of formatting units, layers, text and dimensions. You will know how and when to add or modify objects, text, dimensions and hatching.

You will be provided with access to AutoCAD 2017 software for installation on your own computer. Instruction will be given through written and video instruction in order to produce practice drawings and graded assignments. You will work at your own pace with completion within four months of registration.

Prerequisites:
CADD-1004BIM Fundamentals
More Information

This course introduces students to the fundamentals of applying Building Information Modeling (BIM) concepts and practices to the Architectural, Engineering and Construction (AEC) design processes. Students will learn the fundamental tools, commands and workflows of creating a BIM using Autodesk Revit.

In this course, students will create comprehensive 3D architectural building information models to generate concept drawings and construction documents including plans, elevations, sections, details, schedules and 3D views of architectural projects.

Prerequisites:
CADD-2001Revit 2
More Information

This course is designed to build upon the basic functions of Revit learned in Revit 1 and provide you with an understanding of the more advanced functions of Revit Building Information Modeling (BIM) software. Upon successful completion this course, you will be able to produce accurate and complete construction drawings of a simple renovation project. You will understand the concepts of phases and phase filters, demolition drawings, construction drawings, and how to build a family. Both AutoCAD and Revit are required for this course. You will be provided with access to both AutoCAD and Revit software for installation on your own computer. Instruction will be given through written and video instruction in order to produce graded assignments. Although the suggested time for this course is 10 weeks, you will work at your own pace to achieve completion within four months of registration.

Prerequisites:
CADD-2003AutoCAD 2
More Information

Build on the basic functions of AutoCAD learned in Level One by learning the more advanced functions of AutoCAD computer aided drafting software. Upon successful completion of this course, you will be able to produce accurate and complete moderately complex two-dimensional working drawings in both imperial and metric measurements.

You will understand the concepts of isometric drawing, annotation scales, model space and layouts (paper space), viewport control, printer control, blocks, attributes, templates and an introduction to 3D solids. You will be provided with access to AutoCAD 2017 software for installation on your own computer. Instruction is provided through written and video instruction in order to produce practice drawings and graded assignments. You will work at you own pace with completion within four months of registration.

Prerequisites:
CADD-3003AutoCAD 3: 3D Modelling
More Information

This course is designed to introduce students to the tools, concepts and methods of modelling 3D content in AutoCAD. Explore AutoCAD's 3D modelling and visualization capabilities while you learn to create and edit 3D surface, solid and wireframe elements for documentation and presentation.

Students are introduced to topics including:

  • create moderately complex objects in 3D;
  • modify objects in 3D;
  • apply materials and lighting;
  • apply camera perspectives;
  • set up a 3D model for rendering; and
  • convert 3D content to 2D drawings.
Instruction is provided through written and video instruction to produce practice drawings and graded assignments.

Although the suggested time for this course is ten (10) weeks, students will work at their own pace to achieve completion within four months of registration.

Prerequisites:
DRAF-1000Drafting Fundamentals
More Information

Practice in the use of architectural and engineering imperial and metric scales, basic lettering forms, linework techniques, material symbols, architectural conventions and techniques, orthographic and pictorial drawing. Study light wood frame construction and the production of working drawings for a small residential garage.

Prerequisites:
TRAD-1040Solid Edge - Introduction
More Information

Students will be introduced to solid modeling using Solid Edge and shown the fundamentals required to generate engineering drawings of mechanical components. Students will learn how to develop and modify solid models, as well as shop drawings. Time permitting, students will learn how to use the Assembly environment to produce assembled component layouts and the corresponding bill of material, parts list.

Prerequisites:

Students enrolling in Part-Time and Online Education courses may be required to purchase textbooks and materials at participating Campus Store locations or online at bookstore.rrc.ca. Student booklists will be available approximately 3 weeks prior to scheduled course start dates. Please ensure materials are purchased in advance, to be available for the start date.

Note: Courses requiring a textbook will show "TR" in the Delivery field.

Computer/Laptop Requirements

Online learning is a critical component of course delivery in all Red River College programs. To ensure each student has the tools they need to achieve their academic goals, all Red River College students require, at a minimum:

1.  Off-campus access to a current computer with a webcam

2.  A high-speed internet connection

• Recommended minimum speed: 10 mbps for download, 3 mbps for upload
• Slower internet connection speeds may result in audio and video issues. Please keep in mind that if others in your home are using the same internet connection at the same time as you are, you may also experience audio and video issues.
• Please refer to  https://www.rrc.ca/future-students/computer-requirements/  for further information on Computer Requirements for Students.

Please note that any anticipated costs are not included in Books and Supplies estimates.

Recognition of Prior Learning

Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL) is a process which documents and compares an individual's prior learning gained from prior education, work and life experiences and personal study to the learning outcomes in College courses/programs. For more information, please visit www.rrc.ca/rpl.
