This course promotes knowledge in the areas of physical principles, equipment and instrumentation of Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI). Focus will be spent on exploring the basics and more complex methods and techniques in optimizing MR scanning parameters and sequences. Knowledge of physics principles for diagnostic image formation, reconstruction and manipulation will be explored.
This course is designed to prepare participants to acquire knowledge and skills in screening, preparing, assessing and assisting patients for MR examinations. After a brief review of human interactions, basic nursing skills, ethical and legal aspects of care, following content areas are covered at a level required of MRI technologist: clinical history taking, patient and public screening, contrast agents and sedative administration, physical and psychological preparation for MRI, MR safety regulations and procedures, and biological hazards associated with MRI. This course may be offered through Web CT.
This course is designed to provide the student with a general overview of the gross and cellular anatomy of the various areas of the body with a heavy emphasis on cross-sectional anatomy of the various areas of the body. The student will be able to identify anatomical structures in cross-section on sagittal, coronal and axial MR images.
This course allows students to apply the knowledge that was obtained during the didactic term to the clinical environment. Students will spend time in a hospital and/or research facility that has been approved by the College for training in Magnetic Resonance Imaging/Spectroscopy.
This course focuses on implementation and application of the technical and clinical skills utilized by a Magnetic Resonance Imaging Technologist in a supervised MRI setting.
