NRSG-1019Fundamentals of Gerontology
This course builds on previously registered nurses' knowledge and experience in gerontology nursing throughout the health care system. It presents a review of the physical, social, cognitive, spiritual changes and unique health care needs of the older adult. Health promotion and disease management approach to assist the older adult in achieving wellness across the health continuum are described. Mental health, loss, grief, death and palliative care related to older adults are discussed. The focus is on assisting older adults achieve and maintain optimum health and independence for as much as is possible, given their circumstances and individual health status.
