This academic course will focus on academic-related language tasks related to skills for academic success, with tasks designed for Canadian Language Benchmarks Level five and six. Students will learn how to use questioning techniques, problem-solve, read assignment instructions, study for tests, do multiple choice tests, time management, reference material in presentations, work in teams, self-reflect, and organizational study skills. The course will also provide information on academic integrity, roles and responsibilities of students, building academic word lists, and strategies for more effective speaking, reading and writing.

The Intensive English for International Students (IEIS) program is designed to develop communicative language skills for living and studying in Canada. Students gain English language skills in listening, speaking, reading, and writing through a variety of education and cultural topics. Program outcomes will be met through classroom study, language, and computer laboratory work, guest speakers, field trips, informational interviews, community contact assignments, and observations of career programs.
