WELD-1015CWB Test Prep
More Information

Learn four positions of welding: flat, horizontal, vertical and overhead, using standard Canadian Welding Bureau test assemblies (or prepared butt joints with a backing strip). Upon completion of each joint, mechanical testing is performed on the assemblies to show visually whether or not the student has successfully penetrated the roots of the 2 laying surfaces and fused the sidewalls.

WELD-1017MIG & Arc Welding

This 40-hour welding course is designed for beginner and experienced welders looking to improve their skills. The course covers the theory and application of ARC and MIG processes, including shop orientation and safety. The practical component allows students to focus on the style of welding of their choice.  Students are required to complete a half-mask respirator fit test, complete a WHMIS course and are responsible for providing their Personal Protection Equipment. 

Note: This is not a certification welding course. If you are looking to become a certified welder, please refer to the RRC Polytech Full-time Welding program.

Basic Mig, Arc and Oxyacetylene welding processes will be covered in this 30-hour course. Topics include an overview of WHMIS, personal and workplace safety, Oxyacetylene safety, general Mig, Arc and Oxyacetylene theory, welding and cutting techniques, and machine types and set-up. The cost of materials for projects will be approximately $40-$50, and the purchase of a textbook and safety equipment will be required.

The objective of this course is to prepare the candidates to write the Trade Certification Examination. This course covers the theory portion of gas welding, arc welding, gas tungsten arc welding, gas metal arc welding, blue print reading, math and science.

WELD-2001Welding - Intermediate

This course will build on the Introduction to Welding course and will consist of a quick review of the basic mig, arc, and oxyacetylene cutting and welding processes, as well as workplace safety. Additional topics include plasma cutting, theory and practical, tig welding, theory and practical, and metallurgy theory. There will be a greater emphasis on out-of-position welding, tig welding, specialty welding, and the plasma cutting torch. Prerequisite: Introduction to Welding or some prior welding experience.

Learn how to create decorative metal furnishings for your home. This course will familiarize students with basic welding techniques and how to weld decorative projects and is suitable for those who have little or no welding experience. Topics include an overview of WHMIS, personal and workplace safety, basic welding and cutting techniques and creating jigs that can easily be made at home. You will then have the opportunity to create up to three decorative projects such as coat racks, shelving units, planter boxes, etc.
