You must successfully complete seven courses to earn a certificate. Please note the program prerequisite.

Courses may be taken in any order as long as you meet the course prerequisites.

Recommended First Course:

  • Introduction to Libraries - D

Required Courses:

  • Business Communication 1 - C/D or Communications 2 - D
    Students continuing with the Library and Information Technology Diploma program are encouraged to complete Communications 2
  • Introduction to Reference - D
  • Cataloguing: Introduction - D
  • Cataloguing: Dewey Decimal System - D, or Cataloguing: Library of Congress - D

Electives (choose 2 of the following):

  • Multimedia Services - D
  • Business Computing - C/D or Computers - Intro - C/D
  • Readers' Advisory for Adults - D
  • Readers' Advisory for Children - D
  • Readers' Advisory for Young Adult Literature - D
  • Collection Development & Acquisitions - D
  • Issues in Libraries - D
  • Marketing the Library and Information Services - D

You have a maximum of four years to complete this program. As you progress through it, you should obtain a new program outline every September. This will keep you updated on any changes that may apply to you.
