This course is designed for new users or users with limited experience. By using Sage 50 software, you will develop an understanding on how to enter business transactions into the general ledger, prepare and adjust entries, and print out financial statements. Sage 50 is used for accounts receivable, accounts payable, payroll, and inventory.

In this course you will learn how to record inventory, set up petty cash, track profit and expenses, customize invoices, run reports, account for NSF cheques, set up payroll, customize reports, condense company files, integrate MS Word and MS Excel, and set up multiple users and security. This course is designed for new users and users with limited experience with QuickBooks Premier Edition. Students will learn the following capabilities of the program: creating and editing accounts, selling (invoices, receipts, deposits and credit memos), buying (bills, bill payment, cheques, credit memos, and credit cards), reconciling bank and credit card accounts, GST/PST and reports.
This course is designed for users who have completed the introductory course or who are familiar with the program. In this course you will learn how to sort lists, edit chart of accounts, set up budgets, create custom invoices and other forms, how to account for NSF cheques, bad debts and setting up a payroll.
An excellent beginning to learning the basic features of the current version of AgExpert. Topics covered will include: installing, registering and updating your software; creating and completing a data file set-up tailored to your operation; entering a variety of transactions; using the bank reconciliation and import bank statement tool; creating/restoring backups and snapshots; generating GST/PST returns; financial reports required by your accountant; keyboarding and other shortcuts to save you data entry time.
Build on your knowledge from Level 1 and learn to use advanced features of AgExpert to save time and money. Topics covered will include: Using AgExpert's payroll features, including T4, T4 summary and Record of Employment reports; using the AgriStability features and advanced inventory reporting for AgriStability reporting; Accounts Payable and Accounts Receivable features; Management Tools (Enterprises, Operational Benchmarking, Budget, Cash Flow); Managing Year End.
This is a great "user friendly" course for those who have never used a computer. Learn computer vocabulary, how to use Windows, and word processing basics. Purchase of a textbook is required.
You will learn basic computer operations including storing information, creating and saving files and getting on the internet. Basic word processing and spreadsheet operations will be introduced to expand your computer knowledge.

Topics include basic troubleshooting tips, internal cleaning and maintenance, upgrading and replacing components, virus prevention, spam and spyware avoidance and fraud prevention. These classes are both hand-on and theoretical.
Want to find out how to buy anything you could think of from the internet? EBay is your one stop shop for finding anything you need on the internet. Learn how to set up and manage your account, how to buy and sell, and tips on what and what not to bid on. Most important, learn how to stay safe and reduce your risk of getting scammed. This is a course for beginners. It is recommended that you have a web-based email account such as hotmail.
Learn how to fix your old or new photos with Photoshop. Learn how to fix damage to your old photos, how to change the size and shape of your photos. Move people out and put people in, fix red eye, change color, lighten and darken, make them black and white. Learn how to work in layers and send an image to a friend by email.
Make your computer more efficient and your life easier by learning the basic of good file management. Learn the structure of file storage, how to create, store and retrieve files, how to create folders and how to delete files, including temporary internet files.
Acquire the ability to work with multiple applications, use advanced features and develop simple applications. Learn to manage data with Excel 2010 and to work with multiple worksheets, data tables and scenario management. Study the integration of Excel with other Windows applications.
If you are taking courses by distance delivery, you must have access to a computer with the appropriate Microsoft Office software.
This course will expand on mail merge features, explore desktop publishing and introduce advanced features in document referencing. Specific skills for the creation of online forms, master and sub documents and macros will be examined. The production of detailed tables with matching charts will be developed, as well as associated Word tools such as the track changes, document protections, outlines and field insertions.

Information Security Fundamentals introduces the guiding principles of corporate security and information management. Students will learn about the principals of a security conscious corporate culture as well as basic corporate risk management techniques. This course provides an introduction to the Personal Information Protection and Electronic Documents Act (PIPEDA), the Freedom of Information and Protection of Privacy Act (FIPPA) and the Personal Health Information Act (PHIA), and discusses related legislation application and best practices.
This course will assist students in using Microsoft Outlook XP efficiently. Topics covered will include creating and sending messages, sending, receiving, forwarding email and email attachments, using the address book, using the calendar, meeting requests and responses, managing email and contact and working with tasks and appointments.
A general introduction to presentation graphics. It will provide a good working knowledge of PowerPoint using a hands-on approach. The course is structured to provide skills from simple to complex through a series of exercises that mimic real world application. Online learning is a critical component of course delivery in all Red River College programs. To ensure each student has the tools they need to achieve their academic goals, all Red River College students require, at minimum:
1. Off-campus access to a current computer with a webcam
2. A high speed internet connection
• Recommended minimum speed: 10 mbps for download, 3 mbps for upload
• Slower internet connection speeds may result in audio and video issues. Please keep in mind that if others in your home are using the same internet connection at the same time as you are, you may also experience audio and video issues.

This is an $1000 award given annually to a student who demonstrates exceptional effort and/or the ability to lead, organize and engage students or members of the community in embodying the values of equity, diversity, inclusion, multiculturalism and social justice.
The successful recipient will be a community activist, advocate or leader who has worked for systemic changes at various levels and with various social identities in mind. Their advocacy may involve (but is not limited to): human rights, LGBTT* issues, anti-racism, anti-poverty, public health, non-violence, community-building and student engagement, or encouraging others on issues of social justice that impact the lives of students and the broader community.
Applications will be evaluated by the Selection Committee, based on the following criteria:
• Making a significant contribution to equity, inclusion and social justice through community engagement, either in specific positions of responsibility or while involved in organizing activities. (Requirements: Student statement and at least one reference letter)
• Engaging and inspiring other students or members of the community to advocate on social justice issues that impact the lives of students or the general community.
• Financial need may also be considered. Applicants may choose to complete the financial section of the application, and/or include information.
All full-time and part-time Red River College students are welcome to apply. The general application form must be accompanied by a student statement and required letter(s) of reference in order to be considered. The deadline for applications is March 1st. The Southern Chiefs’ Organization Every Child Matters Scholarship was created in honour of the children who attended residential schools and those who never made it home. Southern Chiefs’ Organization recognizes that all First Nation people, families, and communities have been impacted by the residential schools. The $2000 scholarship is intended to support Survivors and their descendants, as well as descendants of the families of the children who died. The scholarship is to be awarded on the basis of academic merit to a status citizen of one of the Southern Chiefs’ Organization member First Nations (Berens River, Birdtail Sioux, Black River, Bloodvein, Brokenhead, Buffalo, Canupawakpa, Dakota, Dauphin River, Ebb and Flow, Gambler, Hollow Water, Keeseekoowenin, Kinonjeoshtegon, Lake Manitoba, Lake St. Martin, Little Grand Rapids, Little Saskatchewan, Long Plain, O-Ch-Chak-Koo-Sipi, Pauingassi, Point Pegui, Pinaymootang, Plains Pine Creek, Poplar River, Rolling River, Roseau River, Sagkeeng, Sandy Bay, Skownan, Swan Lake, Tootinaowaziibeeng, or Waywayseecappo), who is a full- or part-time continuing student at the Red River College Polytechnic, who has successfully completed at least 12 credit hours, and who has made contributions to their school community or their community at large. Applicants must submit a letter describing their school or community involvement. The contact information of the chosen recipient shall be disclosed to the donor each year. In the unlikely event of a mitigating circumstance, such as a protection order or equivalent, anonymity will be granted to the recipient of the Scholarship. Application deadline is January 31st. By submitting an application for the scholarship, the recipient of the Scholarship consents to be contacted through electronic mail or telephone for a brief interview with a member of Southern Chiefs’ Organization. In the unlikely event of a mitigating circumstance, such as a protection order or equivalent, anonymity will be granted to the recipient of the Scholarship. Application deadline is January 31st. Please note the name of the award to enter on the application form and have additional required documents ready to upload.
