MECH-9001Mechanical Components and Electrical Drives

This micro-credential covers the basics of mechanical components and electrical drives in a complex mechatronic system. Students will learn the basic functions and physical properties of mechanical compo­nents and electrical drives (AC and DC). They will also learn about the flow of energy through mechanical systems and examine materials, lubrication requirements, and surface properties to increase efficiency and to reduce wear and tear. By utilizing techni­cal documentation and analyzing the interworkings of the complete system, students will learn and apply troubleshoot­ing strategies to identify, localize, and correct malfunctions. Preventive maintenance of mechani­cal elements and electrical drives as well as safety issues within the system will be discussed.

Siemens Mechatronics Systems Certification Program (SMSCP):

This micro-credential is part of the SMSCP, specifically Level 1: Siemens Certified Mechatronic Systems Assistant. Upon successful completion of all four Level 1 micro-credential courses, you will unlock the following benefits:

  • Awarded the Level 1: Certified Mechatronic Systems Assistant micro-credential.

  • Eligible to write the SMSCP certification exam, which awards a Level 1 certification from Siemens upon successful completion. As of August 2024, the fee to write the exam is $250 CAD.

Textbooks and Booklists

Students enrolling in Part-Time and Online Education courses may be required to purchase textbooks and materials at participating Campus Store locations or online at bookstore.rrc.ca. Student booklists will be available approximately 3 weeks prior to scheduled course start dates. Please ensure materials are purchased in advance, to be available for the start date.

Note: Courses requiring a textbook will show "TR" in the Delivery field.
