ELEC-9004Electrical Components

This course covers the basics of electrical components in a complex mechatronic system. Based upon a physical system, students will learn the basic functions and physical properties of electrical components, and the roles they play within the system. Technical documentation such as data sheets, schematics, timing diagrams, and system specifications will also be covered.

Siemens Mechatronics Systems Certification Program (SMSCP):

This course is part of the SMSCP, specifically Level 1: Siemens Certified Mechatronic Systems Assistant. Upon successful completion of all four Level 1 micro-credential courses — with the first two being offered in January 2024 — you will unlock the following benefits: 

  • Awarded the Level 1: Certified Mechatronic Systems Assistant micro-credential.
  • Eligible to write the SMSCP certification exam, which awards a Level 1 certification from Siemens upon successful completion. As of Oct. 2023, the fee to write the exam is $250 CAD.

Textbooks and Booklists

Students enrolling in Part-Time and Online Education courses may be required to purchase textbooks and materials at participating Campus Store locations or online at bookstore.rrc.ca. Student booklists will be available approximately 3 weeks prior to scheduled course start dates. Please ensure materials are purchased in advance, to be available for the start date.

Note: Courses requiring a textbook will show "TR" in the Delivery field.
