COMP-9080Digital Fundamentals and Programmable Logic Controllers

This micro-credential course covers the fundamentals of digital logic and an introduction to programmable logic controllers (PLCs) in a complex mechatronic system with a focus on the automation system SIMATIC S7-1500 and the appropriate programming software SIMATIC STEP 7. Using computer simulation, students will learn the role PLCs play within a mechatronic system or subsystem.

Siemens Mechatronics Systems Certification Program (SMSCP):

This micro-credential is part of the SMSCP, specifically Level 1: Siemens Certified Mechatronic Systems Assistant. Upon successful completion of all four Level 1 micro-credential courses, you will unlock the following benefits:

Awarded the Level 1: Certified Mechatronic Systems Assistant micro-credential.
Eligible to write the SMSCP certification exam, which awards a Level 1 certification from Siemens upon successful completion. As of August 2024, the fee to write the exam is $250 CAD.

Textbooks and Booklists

Students enrolling in Part-Time and Online Education courses may be required to purchase textbooks and materials at participating Campus Store locations or online at bookstore.rrc.ca. Student booklists will be available approximately 3 weeks prior to scheduled course start dates. Please ensure materials are purchased in advance, to be available for the start date.
