Learn the technical skills required to operate and maintain low-pressure boilers and related mechanical equipment, such as air compressors, generators, motors, air conditioning and refrigeration equipment, and steam or hot water boilers, to provide utilities such as light, heat, climate control, etc., for buildings and industrial processes.
This is a theory course only, designed to prepare students for the ITS (Inspection and Technical Service Manitoba) Power Engineering Class 5th.
Other Information
Low pressure plants refer to steam below 103 kPa/15 psig or hot water developing over 200 kW (20 BHP).
Topics covered: Basic mathematics; basic design of low-pressure boiler; boiler construction, combustion and firing. Automatic controls, water treatments, pumps and piping; steam - hot water and warm air heating, basic electricity; plumbing; basic refrigeration and air conditioning, maintenance and control.
Textbooks and Booklists
Students enrolling in Part-Time and Online Education courses may be required to purchase textbooks and materials at participating Campus Store locations or online at bookstore.rrc.ca. Student booklists will be available approximately 3 weeks prior to scheduled course start dates. Please ensure materials are purchased in advance, to be available for the start date.
