BUSA-9068Managing Generations in the Workplace

Get an understanding of managing workers in different generations in the workplace. Discover what motivates each generation at work, what incentives they respond to, and what messages they value.
Generations X and Y are significantly different than the Boomer generation. Each generation has different expectations and styles of work in the workplace.

Explore the characteristics of the different generations in the workplace. Discover the current motivations of Boomers, Gen Xers and Gen Yers and what messages they value. Identify practical, how-to tips and techniques for managing Boomers, Gen Xers, and Gen Yers in the workplace.

Upon successful completion of the course, you will:

  • Be able to recognize Boomer, Gen X and Gen Y generational behaviors and interpret their meanings correctly
  • Be able to correctly interpret the language of Boomer, Gen X and Gen Y generations
  • Be able to identify ways to adjust your own communication and leadership style to interact more effectively with members of different generations
  • Be able to explain the relationship between changes in the broader society and the shaping of generational values and behavior
  • Be able to suggest strategies, other than monetary, to motivate and reward today’s workforce.
  • Be able to communicate more effectively with Boomers, Gen Xer’s and Gen Yer’s
  • Be more successful in working with people in different generations

This micro-credential course is non-credit and delivered through the Learning Resources Network (LERN) via their UGotClass online course platform. Courses will never be cancelled once registration is open.

Textbooks and Booklists

Students enrolling in Part-Time and Online Education courses may be required to purchase textbooks and materials at participating Campus Store locations or online at bookstore.rrc.ca. Student booklists will be available approximately 3 weeks prior to scheduled course start dates. Please ensure materials are purchased in advance, to be available for the start date.

Note: Courses requiring a textbook will show "TR" in the Delivery field.
