NURS-2300Diabetes Health

In this course, you will gain advanced knowledge and skills to safely prescribe treatment for diabetes, hypertension, and dyslipidemia while working collaboratively within an interdisciplinary healthcare team. You will explore the scope of practice, professional expectations, and competencies required of Authorized Prescribers (AP) in diabetes care. Throughout the course, you will learn how to conduct comprehensive health assessments, order and interpret diagnostic tests, prescribe appropriate medications and devices, and evaluate treatment outcomes. You will also apply evidence-based clinical practice guidelines to develop and recommend comprehensive treatment plans for individuals living with diabetes. Emphasis will be placed on providing culturally competent care, delivering effective diabetes education, and preventing and managing diabetes-related complications through interprofessional collaboration.

Prerequisites

Textbooks and Booklists

Students enrolling in Part-Time and Online Education courses may be required to purchase textbooks and materials at participating Campus Store locations or online at bookstore.rrc.ca. Student booklists will be available approximately 3 weeks prior to scheduled course start dates. Please ensure materials are purchased in advance, to be available for the start date.
