Description
Develop the skills, techniques and knowledge to safely and effectively perform various welding processes.
Legend:
Learn four positions of welding: flat, horizontal, vertical and overhead, using standard Canadian Welding Bureau test assemblies (or prepared butt joints with a backing strip). Upon completion of each joint, mechanical testing is performed on the assemblies to show visually whether or not the student has successfully penetrated the roots of the 2 laying surfaces and fused the sidewalls.
This 40-hour welding course is designed for beginner and experienced welders looking to improve their skills. The course covers the theory and application of ARC and MIG processes, including shop orientation and safety. The practical component allows students to focus on the style of welding of their choice. Students are required to complete a half-mask respirator fit test, complete a WHMIS course and are responsible for providing their Personal Protection Equipment.
Note: This is not a certification welding course. If you are
looking to become a certified welder, please refer to the RRC Polytech Full-time
Welding program.
Basic Mig, Arc and Oxyacetylene welding processes will be covered in this 30-hour course. Topics include an overview of WHMIS, personal and workplace safety, Oxyacetylene safety, general Mig, Arc and Oxyacetylene theory, welding and cutting techniques, and machine types and set-up. The cost of materials for projects will be approximately $40-$50, and the purchase of a textbook and safety equipment will be required.
The objective of this course is to prepare the candidates to write the Trade Certification Examination. This course covers the theory portion of gas welding, arc welding, gas tungsten arc welding, gas metal arc welding, blue print reading, math and science.
This is an introductory welding course. The course will teach the proper use of hand tools, safety, basic MIG and Stick welding plus some oxy-acetylene welding.

This course will build on the Introduction to Welding course and will consist of a quick review of the basic mig, arc, and oxyacetylene cutting and welding processes, as well as workplace safety. Additional topics include plasma cutting, theory and practical, tig welding, theory and practical, and metallurgy theory. There will be a greater emphasis on out-of-position welding, tig welding, specialty welding, and the plasma cutting torch. Prerequisite: Introduction to Welding or some prior welding experience.
Learn how to create decorative metal furnishings for your home. This course will familiarize students with basic welding techniques and how to weld decorative projects and is suitable for those who have little or no welding experience. Topics include an overview of WHMIS, personal and workplace safety, basic welding and cutting techniques and creating jigs that can easily be made at home. You will then have the opportunity to create up to three decorative projects such as coat racks, shelving units, planter boxes, etc.
Students enrolling in Part-Time and Online Education courses may be required to purchase textbooks and materials at participating Campus Store locations or online at bookstore.rrc.ca. Online learning is a critical component of course delivery in all Red River College programs. To ensure each student has the tools they need to achieve their academic goals, all Red River College students require, at a minimum:
1. Off-campus access to a current computer with a webcam
2. A high-speed internet connection
• Recommended minimum speed: 10 mbps for download, 3 mbps for upload
• Slower internet connection speeds may result in audio and video issues. Please keep in mind that if others in your home are using the same internet connection at the same time as you are, you may also experience audio and video issues.
• Please refer to https://www.rrc.ca/future-students/computer-requirements/ for further information on Computer Requirements for Students.
Please note that any anticipated costs are not included in Books and Supplies estimates.
Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL) is a process which documents and compares an individual's prior learning gained from prior education, work and life experiences and personal study to the learning outcomes in College courses/programs. For more information, please visit www.rrc.ca/rpl.
