ENGI-9012Ice Facility Operator
This course is designed to prepare students to challenge the Province of Manitoba's Ice Facility Operator certificate exam. A knowledge of Provincial and Federal acts, regulations, and applicable codes (CSA B52 Mechanical Refrigeration Code) is necessary. Plant safety, fire safety, handling of dangerous materials, and ammonia safety are considered. Plant administration, communications, sketching, logbooks, and maintenance management systems are reviewed.
Fundamental sciences consider mathematics, applied mechanics and thermodynamics, chemistry and water treatment, and electricity.
Principles of refrigeration includes refrigerants, refrigeration cycles, as well as direct and indirect refrigeration systems. Refrigeration equipment and components include compressors, evaporators, condensers, receivers, pumps and plant piping.
Refrigeration plant control discusses control devices and indicators, HMI stations and operating controls.
Textbooks and Booklists
Students enrolling in Part-Time and Online Education courses may be required to purchase textbooks and materials at participating Campus Store locations or online at bookstore.rrc.ca. Student booklists will be available approximately 3 weeks prior to scheduled course start dates. Please ensure materials are purchased in advance, to be available for the start date.
