Description
Acquire the skills to successfully manage decorating projects. You will learn to apply design principles to enhance the function and quality of both interior and exterior living environments. You will gain the skills to analyze your clients' decorating needs and develop furniture floor plans, recommend product purchases, and facilitate installation arrangements.

This 40-hours course develops your knowledge, skills and attitudes to be successful in the workplace. It begins by outlining practical business issues and assessing essential professional skills and strategies. Topics that build success include both interpersonal and business communication, teamwork and collaboration, employee rights and respectful workplaces, customer/client service, work standards, presentation skills, project management, planning, organizing and time management, negotiating skills, influencing and managing up.
This course will guide students through the techniques and processes involved in writing, speaking, and listening effectively for business. Students will be taught skills for networking, meetings, and working in teams. Students will apply a direct approach to create professional emails and letters. Students will learn strategies for competent information report writing. Students will be taught how to create and deliver a memorable oral presentation. The proper use of business writing rules, grammar, and etiquette will be emphasized throughout the course.
Develop the basic principles of business writing and discuss topics such as: standard business formats, the ability to write clear, readable letters and memos. It also reviews correct grammar and usage and how to improve effectiveness as a speaker.
Learn to decorate homes professionally in Residential Decorating Level 1 -- Parts A & B. Topics covered in Level 1A will include: colour psychology, colour schemes, elements and principles of design, furniture quality and construction, the upholstery process, decorating styles -- living rooms, family rooms and dining rooms, wall and ceiling finishes, flooring and types of wood.
Learn to decorate homes professionally in Residential Decorating Level 1 B.
Learn to make any residential decorating project easier using new software applications products. In this course, you’ll gain computer skills to create 3D spaces, draw floor plans, arrange furniture, and decorate rooms with ease.
Expand your knowledge and skills to successfully design interior environments that focus on environmentally responsible and human-centred strategies, methods, products, and materials. Learn theory, design principles and implementation methods that are environmentally responsible and centred around our physical, psychological, and emotional well being.
Continue to explore the character of home décor in level 2 (Part A & B). Learn to use colour and fabric to decorate spaces, select appropriate furniture, alter the exterior look of your home, draft floor plans and elevations for basement rooms and utility spaces (kitchens, bathrooms, laundry rooms), and arrange accessories.
Students enrolling in Part-Time and Online Education courses may be required to purchase textbooks and materials at participating Campus Store locations or online at bookstore.rrc.ca. Student booklists will be available approximately 3 weeks prior to scheduled course start dates. Please ensure materials are purchased in advance, to be available for the start date.

Online learning is a critical component of course delivery in all Red River College Polytechnic programs. To ensure each student has the tools they need to achieve their academic goals, all Red River College Polytechnic students require, at minimum:

As a residential decorator, you will benefit from professional development and from keeping up to date on current industry trends, standards, ethics, and regulations.
You must complete your part-time program within four years from the start of the first course in the program, unless otherwise stated in the program outline.
A program GPA of 2.0 (60%) is required to graduate.
You will not be granted more than 75% of your credit requirements for graduation through transfer of credit.

Graduation with Honours
If you obtain a grade point average (GPA) of 3.8 or better for the program, you will graduate with honours. If you fail any course in the program, you will not be eligible for this honours designation.
