Overview
Nondestructive testing (NDT) is the process of inspecting, testing, or evaluating materials, components or assemblies for discontinuities, or differences in characteristics without destroying the serviceability of the part or system. Because NDT does not permanently alter the article being inspected, it is a highly valuable technique that can save both money and time in product evaluation, troubleshooting, and research.
Admission Requirements
Entrance Requirements
For students who desire to achieve CGSB certification, the following prerequisites are required. A candidate without these prerequisites may not have his/her training recognized by the NDT certifying agency”.

Materials and Processes Pre-requisite
Prior to taking any NDT training courses all students must pass a
40 hour course or provide evidence acceptable to Red River College that he/she has successfully passed a Materials & Process examination administered by an NDT Accepted Training Organization (NATO). Proof of this training must be provided to the NDT instructor a minimum of 8 days prior to the start of the course. Students not providing proof will be removed from the course
Math Pre-requisite
Anyone taking any NDT method course will be required to pass the Red River NDT math skills test or provide evidence acceptable to Red River College that he/she has successfully passed an NDT math examination administered by an NDT Accepted Training Organization (NATO). Proof of the successful completion of the NDT math exam must be provided to the NDT instructor a minimum of 8 days prior to the start of the course. Students not providing proof will be removed from the course.

This 40hr General Materials and Process course will provide students with the basics of the materials and processes subject. Topics will include: Nature and properties of materials, metals and metallurgy of ferrous and nonferrous metals, the methods and processes used in the manufacturing and manipulation of metals such as the casting process, mill working, forging, fusion bonding, powder metallurgy, welding and heat-treating. The course will also cover the types of discontinuities/defects possibly created by the processes used to manufacture an item and or by the service of the manufactured item.

Prerequisites:
Students enrolling in Part-Time and Online Education courses may be required to purchase textbooks and materials at participating Campus Store locations or online at bookstore.rrc.ca. Student booklists will be available approximately 3 weeks prior to scheduled course start dates. Please ensure materials are purchased in advance, to be available for the start date.
Note: Courses requiring a textbook will show "TR" in the Delivery field.

Computer/Laptop Requirements
Online learning is a critical component of course delivery in all Red River College programs. To ensure each student has the tools they need to achieve their academic goals, all Red River College students require, at minimum:
1. Off-campus access to a current computer with a webcam
2. A high speed internet connection

Other Information
Certification Preparation Workshops
Certification training workshops are for students or NDT technicians approved by the NRCan NDT Certification Body to challenge a CGSB NDT certification exam. Workshops provide students the opportunity to become familiar with the equipment used during an exam, set up and calibration of test equipment and inspecting test pieces with realistic flaws. This is the only Canadian General Standards Board (CGSB) certified NDT test centre in Manitoba.
A refund of tuition, less the $40.00 administration fee will be granted to students who officially withdraw from courses eight days prior to the first class.
