Discover the exciting world of digital audio-visual (AV) production. Take this program to gain or upgrade to professional-level media production skills, whether you’re a passionate hobbyist or seeking to work in the industry.
You will develop skills and be instructed in the key details of DV video camera operation, software tools, and non-linear editing for both digital audio and video.

If you are 19 years of age or older on or before September 30 in your year of registration, have been out of high school for a minimum of one year, and you do not meet the regular admission requirements, you may apply under the special admission requirements.
You must successfully complete nine courses to earn a certificate.

Learn to write a short video script and prepare it for production. To allow learners time to draft a longform script, the course will be presented in two sections. By the end of the course, learners will be able to write for different mediums; develop characters and change as part of a story; write for documentaries and docu-dramas, and differentiate between entertainment and news writing; develop and adapt elements of good screenplay; examine the tools of the trade for screenwriters; exchange and develop longform screenplays; and script and scene screenplays.
Professional digital image editing and image manipulation at its finest. Learn the comprehensive basic program functions of PhotoShop including the use of painting and editing tools, making selections, colour correcting images, working with channels, preparing images for print. Learn many of the shortcuts and tips used by more experienced PhotoShop users.
Produce a short video production in a hands-on environment. By the end of the course, learners will be able to differentiate among different mediums, and examine production techniques and styles; pitch a video project; breakdown a shooting script and plan a shooting schedule; create a working budget and source out equipment needs; work in a production environment with others; prepare short videos for editing; analyze and evaluate production plans and schedules; discuss the realities of production processes; and prepare a marketing proposal for a short video.
This course will give you the knowledge and insight into video production. Learn to compose the perfect shot, with proper lighting and clear audio. This introductory course provides a hands-on learning environment that explores digital production from storyboarding to credits, and everything in-between.
This advanced course in After Effects software continues to develop industry skills in digital A/V production. Layout, design, video manipulation, 2D animation, and graphic design will be covered. At the completion of the course, learners will be able to design layout and colour schemes; keep on the latest trends; prepare a treatment; apply continuity; create graphic elements and animation; package media; apply stylistic overlays; and design and apply effects.
Podcasts are a powerful way to share your ideas and interests. They are also a direct connection to your listeners and your customers. If you can create interesting content, your audience will grow. This course is all about planning, producing, publishing and promoting your podcast. The course is focused on audio podcasts, but we will touch on video podcasts as well. You don't need expensive equipment to broadcast to the world -- but you do need a plan to keep the world listening.
Premiere software application, part of the Adobe Creative Suite, will help bridge your creative ideas from Photoshop, Illustrator, and After Effects into Digital Video. In this technical course, you will learn the basics of the user interface and tools to help edit and finish short- to long-form programs using multi-format media from DSLR to Digital Cinema Cameras.
Develop the knowledge and skills required to create your own live action immersive experiences. This course is designed to offer you a technical, immersive, and hands-on approach to learning Virtual Reality (VR) 360 video production. The course covers pre-production planning, shooting, editing, working with spatial ambisonic sound, and delivery to online platforms. Virtual reality and 360 filmmaking is rapidly becoming a fundamentals part of Film, TV and Advertising Industries.
Students require a VR headset.
You will creatively design elements for video in news medium and production medium (commercials, long form editing), and transfer media to different audio and visual digital formats using Final Cut Pro software. At the completion of the course, you will be able to develop a style/look; describe footage; edit A/V; create a final production; acquire music/sound effects; transfer media; identify digital/analog; decide when to use different formats; adjust technical A/V levels; sequence and pace shots; and digitize footage.
Learn how to properly prepare a professional art portfolio for the Digital Media Design program. Knowledge, understanding, and insight of the two-year RRC full-time program will be discussed.
Explore the fundamentals of web site development, the origins of the Internet, the latest web technologies, communication theory, hypertext markup language (HTML) and project management. Apply the theory and concepts as you learn to build a personal web site proposal in a team environment.
Receive instruction in advanced creative image manipulation, experimental illustrative techniques and prepress operations. Delve into some of the more complex operational features of this software program.
Students enrolling in Part-Time and Online Education courses may be required to purchase textbooks and materials at participating Campus Store locations or online at bookstore.rrc.ca. Student booklists will be available approximately 3 weeks prior to scheduled course start dates. Please ensure materials are purchased in advance, to be available for the start date.

Online learning is a critical component of course delivery in all Red River College programs. To ensure each student has the tools they need to achieve their academic goals, all Red River College students require, at minimum:
1. Off-campus access to a current computer with a webcam
2. A high speed internet connection

A program GPA of 2.0 (60%) is required to graduate.
You will not be granted more than 75% of your credit requirements for graduation through transfer of credit.

Graduation with Honours
If you obtain a grade point average (GPA) of 3.8 or better for the program, you will graduate with honours. If you fail any course in the program, you will not be eligible for this honours designation.
