PHAR-1033Bioprocessing Pharmaceutical Production

This course emphasizes the theoretical and practical aspects of microbial fermentation for the production of biopharmaceuticals. Students will acquire hands-on experience setting up and monitoring biofermentors. They will also learn the basics of various filtrations in downstream processing. A major portion of this course will focus on the microbial laboratory procedures, aseptic laboratory practices, and purification techniques used in biotechnology drug manufacturing. Special emphasis will be placed on drug manufacturing using biotechnology processes to produce recombinant protein therapeutics.
