SOSC-3008Modern Controversies in Healthcare

The Canadian Nurses Association stresses the importance of the moral responsibility of nurses, where moral objections are rooted in an informed, reflective choice. It also stresses the importance of social justice and health promotion. By addressing controversies head on, including less socially accepted perspectives, students will be better equipped to make informed choices about their participation in controversial care as well as their potential future role as an advocate for change.

Disclaimer: The content of this course focuses on controversial and uncomfortable topics. Readings and videos may be graphic and include explicit language. Some content may be challenging for students. As the course seeks to illuminate and challenge students’ personal perspectives and biases, it is important to acknowledge, confront, and discuss topics both inside and outside personal comfort zones. Respectful debate is integral to Modern Controversies in Health Care.
