Description
After successfully completing the first year of
Civil Engineering Technology, you can choose the Structural Engineering Technology option to study the principles and applications of structural design and analysis for careers in:
- Structural design and construction of building systems
- Computer-assisted design and drafting
- Site inspection, testing, and supervision
- Construction administration and project management
- Technical sales and support
In the Structural Engineering Technology option you take more advanced courses and build on the competencies you gained in the first year. The focus is on application in design and construction.
Courses include subjects such as:
- Timber, steel, masonry and reinforced concrete design
- Structural analysis
- Soil Mechanics
- Structural detailing practices
- Foundation design
- Material testing
An applied research project is incorporated into final term courses.
