GENI-1073Sailing: Basic Cruising
The Basic Cruising course is designed for the prospective cruising sailor who has minimal or no sailing knowledge or experience. The student is taught the necessary skills to safely sail local waters in moderate winds and sea conditions during daylight hours. The student will learn to perform the duties of both skipper and crew of a 25 - 29 foot sailing vessel. There is a significant number of new terms and marine law in this course. A pre-course study package is forwarded to the student three weeks prior to course commencement to decrease classroom time and enhance learning on the water. Upon successful completion, candidates are awarded the Canadian Yachting Association Basic Cruising certificate. Your CYA certified instructor is a veteran sailor with extensive and varied experience. You will be able to draw on your instructor's knowledge and experience to gain insight into cruising, boat selection, boat operation, chartering and provisioning.
