PRAC-1036Practicum Option - E.A.

The Practicum Option course component of the program integrates an educational assistant employee’s knowledge, skills and attitude as part of the employment experience in a school environment. Knowledge is defined as what an educational assistant knows and can apply. Skills are defined as what an educational assistant can do. Attitude is how an educational assistant conducts herself/himself as an employee of the educational system.

At the time of registration in the Practicum Option, students must be employed as an educational assistant with a minimum of 1000 hours worked in a classroom in the school system. The total number of hours may include educational assistant substitute employment worked within the last three years.

Entrance Requirements

All academic courses in the Educational Assistant Certificate Program must be completed prior to registering for the Practicum Option course.  Students require a C+ in each academic course of the program in order to be eligible to enroll in the workplace Practicum Option course.  The Practicum Option course is based on a Pass/Fail system.

The student must submit a dated letter of verification from the Human Resource department of the school division stating the number of hours that the student has been employed as an educational assistant in the school division. The original letter is to be submitted to the Program Facilitator at Red River College for approval. Copies are not sufficient.
