ENGI-10164th Class Power Engineer - Part A Exam Preparation

This course is designed to prepare 5th Class Power Engineers for the Interprovincial 4th Class Power Engineering Certification Exam – Part A. Students will follow the Standardization of Power Engineer Examinations Committee (SOPEEC)- approved curriculum, with a focus on the acts, regulations, and codes as they pertain to the role of a Power Engineer. They will study mathematics, mechanics, thermodynamics and chemistry to develop a basic understanding of the physics involved in refrigeration, steam production and the operation of auxiliary support systems. Through exploration of basic electricity, instrumentation, controls, and boiler construction, students will become familiar with the safe and efficient operation of steam plants.  

This course is designed for 5th Class Power Engineers interested in challenging the Interprovincial 4th Class Power Engineering Certification Exam – Part A with the Government of Manitoba’s Inspection and Technical Services (ITS)

Successful completion of this course will earn students partial credit toward their practical experience requirement. Students interested in earning their full practical experience credit can explore RRC Polytech’s full-time day Power Engineering Technology (4th Class) program

Other Information

Note: Participants must have 6 months (900 hours) work experience in a 4th class high pressure plant and have completed Part A and Part B or have one year experience (1800 hours) working in a high pressure plant (over 25 HP) before being eligible to write the Manitoba Office of the Fire Commissioner - Fourth class Power Engineering exam.
