CO-OP/Practicum Information

Red River College Regional Campuses:

The practicum integrates theory and practice in the work environment by providing first-hand experience. 

Practicum Prerequisite:  All theory courses successfully completed.

All students entering the practicum must complete the following:

1.  Criminal Records check to be completed 1 month prior to  practicum. (Students with a criminal record may not be able to complete their practicum).
2.  Child Abuse Registry check to be completed 1 month prior to practicum. (Students with a child abuse record may not be able to complete their practicum).

Every effort will be made to place students in a facility of specific interest but due to facility availability, instructor time factors, and practicum timing in general, the final placement decision will be made by the Red River College instructor. 

The practicum is assessed on a pass/fail basis.

School of Continuing and Distance Education:

Fulltime program practicum hours are extended.

Placements are available on a limited and fluctuating basis. There may be a waiting period for practicum registrations and placements. Practicum placements will be determined by the College.

To be eligible to register for the practicum, students must:
1. Successfully complete all theory courses.
2. Write a resume/letter of introduction to be approved by the practicum instructor and to be presented to the immediate supervisor at the first practicum session.
3. Submit Adult Criminal Record/Vulnerable Sector (ACRVS) Check and Provincial Child Abuse Registry (PCAR) Check conducted within six months of attending the practicum. Original documents must be submitted. For further information, please go to: Police Information Check
